The Colosseum

The legendary Roman stadium, the colosseum is an awsome monument to the grandeur of ancient Rome. I first visited in the mid 90s, I still recall the moment, I wanted to just be left alone in quiet reflection. My personal journey, I had worked long and hard to get to this place was now complete - I had achieved my goals.

Timing your visit is paramount, we arrived early enough, already at 10 am, an hour and a half line awaited us. Instead, we headed straight to the forum for a few hours before returning with our dual admittance tickets and waltzed straight in.

It is an awsome feeling being in the stadium that could house 75,0000 people viewing gladiator duals, exotic animals and the theatre of combat all that time ago.

The fact the stadium is still largly intact after pretty much every other monument, temple, theatre, library or forum now lays in ruins is a testament to Roman engineers, this is just amazing to not only stand next to, but able to venture inside a largly intact monument to ancient design and engineering.
