The question is not, do I go to the Roman Forum, but instead, how long do I stay there. The actual forum only makes up a part of the actual site, the forum was really the commercial centre, there is plenty to see, make sure you reserve a full day to view the forum and surrounds before heading off to the Colosseum, this is a dual entry ticket. This for me is Rome, this is why the masses descend on the capital of the ancient world - this was, in its heyday, the centre of the universe.
