As we we got closer to the centre, the mood changed, riot police were out in force and setting up. As a police convoy drove through the centre, the youths descended on the vehicles rocking, jumping and banging the convoy. The police officers in full riot equipment
moved in and broke up the crowd dispersing them to more open areas. They regrouped starting problems in different areas. I stood nearby to watch the police tactics, it looked as if every available officer was on duty, they had a long night in front of them. I wondered what it would be like if France had actually lost the game.
The lure of low cost, lightweight & independent travel once again beckons. Living in youth hostels & pensions, eating off the side of the road with long cramped rides on buses, trains, ferries carting only what we can carry on our backs. The post GFC environment sees me once again hitting well worn tracks to explore cultures, sights and interact with people.
